Memorial Day 2014 Memorial Day 2014

On May 26, 2014, the city of Beavercreek hosted it's annual Memorial Day Event at Veteran's Memorial Park.  The event kicked off with the St. Andrew Pipes and Drums rendition of Amazing Grace, followed by a welcome and opening remarks by Mayor Brian Jarvis and the Invocation by Pastor Paul Craig.

The American Legion Post 763 posted the Colors and VFW Post 8312 raised the Flags over the event followed by the Boy Scouts leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Guest speaker Colonel Donald Grannan, Commander of the 88th Air Base Wing Communications Group, delivered an empassasioned speech that not only reflected on the history of celebrating Memorial Day, but eloquently shared stories of recent American heroes who gave their lives so that their compatriots, their brothers in arms, could live to defend our great Nation another day.

John Sostrom led the singing of God Bless America followed by VFW Post 8312's rifle salute and the playing of Taps by Samantha Daugherty and Valerie Ryan of the Beavercreek High School Music Department.

Thanks to Colonel Grannan, everyone from the City, American Legion Post 763, VFW Post 8312, the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies and all the participants for a beautiful celebration!

If you've not visited beautiful Veteran's Memorial Park, you should.  The 'Walk of History' leads you through American conflicts from the American Revolution through the present.  A limited number of memorial bricks are still available to celebrate your friends and loved ones, if interested contact the Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture Department at 937-427-5514.
